Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum

The Magna Charta Universitatum, first signed by 388 rectors in 1988 and revised in 2020 to reflect the changing world the Uuniversities are facing, continues to support the mission and operations of Universities worldwide. To date, more than 950 university leaders have signed it.

Each year, the Magna Charta Observatory organises an International Conference to address current challenges in upholding core values and serving society in a responsible manner. The 2022 conference entitled “Universities engaging with Society in Turbulent Times” was held in Bologna on 14 and 15 September.

On 16 September, the Magna Charta Observatory and the University of Bologna hosted at the Aula Magna Santa Lucia the Ceremony for the Signing of Magna Charta by Universities committed to the principles of the Universitatum.
