III Conference PRIN 2022 Global Civic Education

Within the framework of the PRIN 2022 Global Civic Education project, the UNESCO Chair in Global Citizenship Education at the University of Bologna has presented the conference “Decolonising Schools: Educating Global Citizens Amidst Emerging Citizenship and Identity Dynamics,” which took place on Friday, June 13th, from 2:00 p.m. in the Tibiletti Hall at the Department of Philosophy (Via Zamboni 38, Bologna).

This event aimed to foster an open dialogue on the role of new forms of citizenship, engaging scholars, educators, students, institutions, and associations active in the Bologna area.

Programme:

  • Presentation of the PRIN 2022 research findings on the relationship between civic education in upper secondary schools and global citizenship;
  • The role of the Municipality in promoting new citizenships;
  • A keynote speech by Dr. Saif ur Rehman Raja (University of Siena), an expert in Critical Race Theory, racialisation processes, and power dynamics;
  • A roundtable discussion with teachers’ associations (CESP, CIDI, MCE, Proteo Fare Sapere) on the theme of new citizenships in schools;
  • A forum for dialogue with Bologna-based organisations involved in school decolonisation, including Giochi Antirazzisti, Biblioteca Cabral, Cassero, Extinction Rebellion, SELAM, WeWorld, and Centro RIESCO.

The event was held in person.
